Exploring the forest inside.
Dreaming our day.

Background

For more than 10 years we’ve been visiting the Sapara people in the Amazon rainforest. The Sapara have shown us how we are connected to everything around us and the transformative reality of that interconnection. At their request we’ve been translating and sharing their wisdom. This exploration extends that undertaking.

Exploration

Over the course of 5 days and 4 nights (June 22nd to June 26th), we will focus on experience, dreams and storytelling as the teachers and then distill the wisdom out of those. The Sapara wisdom is passed on through an oral tradition. They teach and learn through experience, always observing life as life presents itself through the waking and dreaming worlds. Like the Sapara, we will dream our waking days together.

Our dreaming process is a critical focus of this experience. We will study Amazon cosmology and dreaming, and how the Sapara dream travellers (The Dream People) connect to forms of nature and aspects of time. A Sapara elder will instruct us, and we will have a ceremony to prepare ourselves to dream. In the morning we will share and interpret our dreams, learn from one another and continue our waking day.

The dreaming will form our waking day. The natural beauty of Salt Spring Island is a wondrous place to encounter and understand the importance of our connection to nature. Following our dreaming we take time to reflect and integrate our newfound understanding through activities and traditional Sapara ceremonies. Be prepared for moderate hiking in the forest and along the coastline.

We will explore our dreaming and waking worlds in the traditional way of the Sapara. Our activities will include…..

  • Dream explorations and interpretations
  • Teachings by a Sapara elder (via Zoom)
  • Understanding plants as allies, food and medicine
  • Traditional Sapara ceremonies to bring clarity
  • And more, in response to the forest and our dreaming.

Join us on Salt Spring Island in the Salish Sea (between mainland BC and Vancouver Island). We will be based on Stowel Lake Farm, a beautiful retreat centre with a working organic farm located on 100 acres of forest and rolling hills.

The 5-day exploration is just the beginning. The learning is meant to be ongoing. We plan to have many future explorations that will include further study, monthly online meetings, as well as visits to the Sapara people in Ecuador’s rainforest.

After the exploration we will also offer individual treatments at the Green Raven Centre. You can email us to book a treatment.
